Unzip & Zip - OpenSuse 10.2

Hi ,

I am on Suse 10.2. i have downloaded a zip and i want to make changes to it and again zip that file.

i know the unzip command or extract from GUI. but i am not sure about the ZIP command.

is it possible that if i extract only file from the zip using unzip and place the same file (i.e overwrite the file in zip).

Thanks in advance

hmm im not entirely sure what you mean? Just extract the zip with ark do whatever you want to the files and zip it back up again? You don't need to run any commands if you right click on the file ark is an option. Unrar is a useful addon to ark coincidently.

Yes.

ABC.zip
i can view the ABC.zip in Suse Explore drill down to required file extract by right clicking the file.( not done yet but option is there).

make changes to that extracted file and put back at same location from where i have extracted it.

how to put it back?

So your saying you want to be able to extract a single file from an archive so you can modify it and put it back? Well ok i'm not sure how you would do that but why don't you just extract the whole archive and do it that way?

in a terminal, do unzip ABC.zip to extract files then use zip to get it back.
read man zip and man unzip for more help.
you many want to try -t for testing beforehand
note that -f can refresh your files either way (and this is what you need.)

hope this helps,
thanks, shen

for example: you got abc.zip downloaded from somewhere..
use this command to extract it's content:

unzip abc.zip

then make your changes.. in these files.. after you done with the files. use this command to add all the files to archive

zip -1 new_abc.zip *.*

note: -1 is not L in the alphabet it is one. this parameter is used to compress the archive.
