trouble getting suse 9.3 to work with lcd display

Dear Linux Gods,

I have tried for some time to get SuSE, or any brand of linux for that matter, to work with my Dell 1905FP monitor. I cannot find any information on the monitor (ie: size in mm, refresh rates, etc) on Dell's website. I found someone's xorg.conf and stole the monitor info out of it, but to no avail. You'll have to excuse me as I have virtually no experience with linux. I do have a little unix knowledge so I can get around in the text environment.

I've really wanted to get linux going on my badass machine I built about a year ago, but it hasn't worked anytime I've tried. Even after updating, monitor info for this model monitor does not appear in YaST.

Any help you can send along would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

P.S. Here's that dude's xorg.conf

Are you able to boot into text mode?

If so, run this command: /usr/sbin/hwinfo --monitor. This assumes that, if you can boot into text mode, there is communication between system and monitor. You just don't have GUI.

Hwinfo will give you information about the monitor, such as maximum resolution, hz and vt refresh rates.

After that, you may need to tweak the module loading to get the right one loaded.

Hope this helps.

That config file can only work if you have an nvidia card and the NVidia 3D driver installed.

Could you post your own:
Code:
less /etc/X11/xorg.conf
