Transferring a 'SuSE-made' data drive into a FBSD box
 

I'm very against double posting myself but the people in *BSD aren't seeming to either understand my question or... I don't know.

I have a work client running an old SuSe 7.0 router, mailserver and fileserver. Due to it's age and my lack of SuSe knowledge the box scares me :S

I'm wanting to convert this to a FreeBSD 5.x box as I'm more familliar with it and feel he needs some sort of upgrade anyway. Nothing against a newer version of SuSE, but I'm much more at home with a FBSD box - stick with what you kinow...

My primary concern is whether his 120Gb Data drive will be accessible in the FreeBSD box.

To clarify this, he has two hard drives. One has SuSE installed on it and all his system/conf files etc. And the other is a 120Gb drive with purely data which is accessed by his WinXP clients using Samba.

Is there anything I can do to find out if this will pose a problem upon conversion? What filesystem is the data drive likely to be? Am I likely to be able to wipe out SuSE, install FBSD on the smaller drive and simply mount the data drive?

The drive is undoubtably running on a ext2 filesystem. If BSD can r/w to that, then there's no problem at all.

FreeBSD can read and write to an ext2 filesystem without a problem. So I guess I'm clear then :)
