Toss dhcpcd in favor of dhclient

I'm running SuSE 9.2 Pro, and am having a real hard time trying to get dhclient to work.

dhclient itself is installed properly, and works if I run it manually... however, I want dhclient to be the default dhcp client on the system (i.e when I boot the system or plug in my wifi card).

I opened the file /etc/sysconfig/network/dhcp and set the string at the top of the file from "" to "dhclient"

When I boot, I get no IP. I can do 'dhclient <interface>' and it works fine...

Any suggestions?

I don't run Suse, but I'm pretty sure that dhcpd is the dhcp deamon, while dhclient is the dhcp client, so ditching one or the other isn't going to fix your problem.

Do you have dhclient setup to start at boot time? This could be the problem, as you say it works when run manually.

I have both dhcpcd and dhclient installed. Neither conflict with each other, in the sense that you can have them both installed. Somehow, I need to tell my OS to use the dhclient instead of dhcpcd.

dhclient doesn't need to start at boot, as far as I know. It **should** be called from the if-device script when the device is started (whether that is at boot or via hotplug).

The only thing I have changed, besides installing the dhclient rpm is to change the variable in the dhcp file (see earlier post).
