and the number one reason SuSE Linux Sucks ... no real installation support for retail products!!!!

But really folks, I have been running SuSE since v9 on my desktop and I decided to purchase 10 to go with my Turion64 laptop. I have 2 high speed mirrors in my state, no dice, all I get is error in media when trying the FTP or http installs from them. I did get it installed from the source in Germany. Granted that was OVERNIGHT and did not allow me to setup and account so I cannot login and since I cannot login ... I cannot create an account.

I got mine from Edmunds Enterprises for $5. I'm using 9.3 (for 2 days) and I really like it. Don't know about 64 bit. I had some problems getting it installed but I overcame and conquered.:newbie:

What specifically was the problem? Did you purchase the retail box or were you installing from a mirror? In my experience installing 64 bit SuSE v10.0 was pretty much no different than installing 32 bit v9.3 or v10.0. Perhaps you are directing your frustration towards SuSE when it might actually be a local mirror problem?

Mine - OpenSuSE 10.0 - cost £6.49 (as a magazine cover disk). Before this, I had bought the retail version of SuSE 9.1 which was not as cheap, but a lot cheaper than Win XP.

I have had no great problems, and I am quite happy with it. Again, I don't know about 64-bit, as my PC isn't, though 9.1 did come with a 64-bit install disk.

Kinda seems counter-intuitive to just say something sucks on Linux when there are always glitches for any linux distro depending upon the hardware the distro is being installed on. I mean come on, its not Windows, which is why we are all here.
The real problem is that you've got an issue w/ 64-bit SuSE. Now tell us where the probably really lies.
So you said you bought v10 in the store, so why are you using FTP/HTTP? Perhaps its just JW said, the mirror is the problem. I'd suggest downloading the ISOs, extracting them to a partition on your harddrive that you wont reformat in the installation, and install the 64bit version locally.

I hope this helps give you some idea of how to solve the problem.

Suse is one of those linux distros meant to be used for desktop users with helpfull intallers and programs. If it isn't your cup of tea, please don't use or come here to post stupid threads.

I really can't understand you people who use onky slack, and try to tell everybody that windows sucks and windowss users are assholes. What are the real benefits of those posts?

Some of us like the idea of using linux as an operating system, not just as toy, which one installs three times a day and has to compile own kernel daily to get more geek points...

When Suse sucks, why are using this "sucking" distro?

Specifically, the problem is that I have purchased, from SuSE & Novell the 9.0 version (not 64-bit) and the 10.0 version and I cannot get the "installation support" as promised after the sale. Their phone support had no idea what to do when I called other than turning off APCI and ACPI, which I had done already. The 10.0 runs fine on my desktop and is much faster all around, but it will not install on my laptop which is now my main platform.

I burned the Network ISO from StorageTek and Utah School of computing. I also tried USC, ISC and CU ... none of them work.

Yes you are correct, I am pissed becuase I half know what I am doing and I have not made a mistake. Every mirror returns the same error under the software section of the install "No file found @ xyz mirror execpt the source in Germany which tells me like 30 if the x86_64 packages are not available!!!

I did try this too, but you cannot download the ISO's as they are all named i386 (check it, all mirrors are 1386, not x86_64) so I downloaded the whole 9.3 x86_64 folder instead, and I am given the same error I I get from the mirrors.
Admittedly because it is the one I know best. I also have Mandriva 2006, FC4 & Ubuntu. I would much prefer Ubuntu because of apt package management, but I can use this under SuSE too and I like having YaST to hold my hand.

If someone knows where I can get the 9.3 x86_64 DVD ISO i would truly be grateful. As for SuSE sucking, no not really, I like it, and that is why I have become so frustrated. I poured in about 20 hours trying to figure this out, which I should not have to if there was real installation support, that would be the other reason.

I guess this is indeed a mirror problem, as suggested earlier. If you have a look at one of the main european mirrors, you will find the following:

Fellas, I am not lookng for evaluation copies, nor 10.0 copies. I own the SuSE 10 on DVD, as purchased from Novell. I need a 9.3 mirror WITH the x86_64 packages that is not all f%#@*d up ... even ftp.suse.com is broken!!! Using a European mirror is not any good either. I pay for broadband so I get broadband speed, not 14.4 speeds.

Again, I am trying to perfom a netwok installation of SuSE 9.3 Professional. I am happy to purchase an x86_64 DVD if anyone has a recommendation at this point. I do need a site as I am not giving PCtech101.com $20.00

I get the impression that you don't know what you really want. Maybe you just want to blow-off some steam, but I'd prefer you would do this in "General" and to use this forum for actual questions. If this thread was meant to be a serious question, I recommend to be a little more specific on what you want to achieve. That you are restricted to network installation and SUSE 9.3 was not at all clear from your previous posts.

I still recommend to have a look at different mirrors and to consider the 9.3-EVAL-DVD, to which I have posted a link above. Maybe you didn't know, but EVAL is not a restricted version! Only very few commercial packages are missing and there is no time limit.
