tlid - internet ``super-server'';

The tlid super-server is identical to inetd(1m) , except
that it is used to start TLI based servers, and it also
allows STREAMS modules to be pushed on to the created STREAM
for a particular connection. There are no TLI based servers
provided with this release, but tlid does provide the fol-
lowing internal services: echo, discard, time, daytime, and
chargen. It should be noted that inetd(1m) can also provide
these services, so there should be no overlap between the
services inetd is providing and those provided by tlid. The
tlid server can be used to manage customer provided servers.

For more on tlid, please check "tlid" man page.

yeah, the manpage on a solaris / irix box by all accounts... this is a Linux forum, and you can't expect people to know about other unix variants. please don't tell me to read manpages.

most linux systems use xinetd, which uses /etc/xinetd.conf and /etc/xinetd.d/*, whilst debian and variants generally use /etc/inetd.conf.
