the window manager TWM


Hi guys...i am running suse 9.3....and my window manager is stuck in twm from default.

and the login screen is xdm....

what exactly do i type in eterm console to change both of these ( to the kde defaults??

Make sure that you have set DISPLAYMANAGER="kdm" in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager and DEFAULT_WM="kde" in /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager.

And please try to use the forum search next time. I can't count the threads anymore that we have about this problem.

okay im sorry about that....but can you tell me how to edit those two files exactly??

This is very basic stuff!

on command line:

login as root (you need root permissions to edit these files)
start your favourite editor (which you don't have, so I choose pico):
'pico /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager'
make the changes, save (Ctrl+o) and exit (Ctrl+x). Change to you normal user and have fun.

with YaST:
