Temporary uninstall of Suse 10
Let me make it clear from the start, I am NOT abandoning Suse 10. I like it too much.
I installed it just last week. I now have problems with the Win XP section on my hard disk and need to do a Windows recovery.
I use a Sony Vaio RS-702 desktop.
The recovery disc will not work. I searched Sony's website for clues and it seems it comes down to Sony's Recovery Utility not liking to be moved one little bit. The same problem seems to occur with Norton Go Back which also changes the partitions.
Since Suse 10 shrank the Windows partition, to a little over a quarter of its original size, I assume that's why the Sony Recovery Utility will not work.
I need to get back my hard disk back to the point it was at before installing SuSe 10. I have about 10GB of stuff on Win XP that I cannot afford to lose.
A Win XP System Restore won't solve the problem. It won't give me access to the stuff on XP that I've put there in the past week? So I need to get SuSe off the disk and right back to where I was this time last week.
Once I have it all, I can wave bye-bye to Win crap forever and give Suse the whole disk to play with. But, right now, I need it to be removed completely.
I have been very careful with this and read as many threads as I could. It seems Yast can either work magnificently or completely cock-up to the point where it removes everything, Windows and all. If that happens, I am totally screwed. If it removes the Sony Recovery Utility I can't see how I can get the thing to work at all.
Please can someone help?
I've learned a lot in a week but I do need this explained to me in simplistic terms. I do NOT want to make any mistakes. I have stuff on that Win XP partition that I simply cannot afford to lose.
If I sound unduly worried....You're right....I am.
The manual's clearly don't encourage uninstallation. Even online searches came up with absolutely zip from Novell.
