System Suddenly Won't Boot

Hi everyone.

New to linux here. I was just getting Suse 10.2 setup and encountered a problem where everytime it boots it freezes. This happens right after the mouse cursor appears, then the screen goes nuts and black - No error code..

I changed one thing (the network card settings in Yast) and that is the only thing that could have caused it.

Hopefully if i get this fixed I can start back trying to get the DSL to work. grrr

can anyone give me some advice?

Sounds like you have hardware issues, either video card, motherboard, memory, or something faulty that is causing linux to crash.

I think it's hardware although it could also be that Linux doesn't like your hardware.

Can you post the specs of your PC??

You mentioned your pc freezes and you're able to see a mouse, I'm assuming you have graphical interface enabled. You can try clicking on "CTRL-ALT-F3".

That will send you into text mode, you can click on "CTRL-ALT-F7" to go back into graphicsl mode.

If you can see the login prompt after you click on "CTRL-ALT-F3" and you can login and be able to type then there's most likely something wrong in your configuration that causes the graphical mode to crash.

I also seem to have this problem after i updated the kernel,
try removing the vgamode parameter in your bootloader setup (in yast)
that worked for me.
