SYstem bogged down since last reinstall... CPU at 100%?
 

Hi all. I've been using openSUSE 10.2 since last December, and I reinstalled it last Sunday. I applied all available online updates during the installation. Now, the system is for some reason EXTREMELY slow. It starts up fast, then open an app or two, and whoa. I'm running GNOME, so I checked the System Monitor, and my CPU is maxed out at 100%, 100% of the time!? I did noticed when I started up the system that the menu had been updated. I installed the default menu included on the CDs, and it was no help. In fact, it's getting slow right now, I type and Firefox is crashing. It never did this before I reinstaled. Any help? Thanks.

Update: I ran top and as all of my windows seem to stop responding at the same time:mad:, the commands beagled-helper, firefox-bin, and X are taking turns at the top of the list, using up about 80% of the CPu between each other on average. That never happened before. What do ya'll think?

Its probably Beagle(http://beagle-project.org). This search tool scours your hard drive and indexes everything for fast searching. Unfortunately, it also eats up a lot of cpu cycles in the process. Either reconfigure beagle to use fewer resources, or if you don't use it, uninstall it.

Thanks. Although I'm running an Ubuntu LiveCD right now, so I can actually use the system, I'll definitely look into it when I return to SUSE. But, do you know why Beagle would all of a sudden with this install decide to use all those CPU cycles? I don't remember it doing that before. Anyway, thanks.

OK, I reinstalled SUSe, and it is doing it still! It's never done this before, and I've reinstalled SUSE 10.2 many times. It is Beagle, but it's never done that any time before. Any help? Thanks...

I reinstalled SUSE again yesterday afternoon, and even now the system is STILL unusably slow. I'm typing this on another computer right now. I'm lucky if I can use Firefox, and I can forget about playing music while surfing. The strange thing is that as I said, it never did this before a reinstall the last week in May, so I suspect it was a bug with an official SUSE update. What could be causing this issue? I know it's Beagle search but why? I checked on all Beagle packages that I know of, and YaST shows the version installed is the version that came on the DVD I bought last December. My technical support included with the box has expired, so I can't call SUSE's tech support. The only thing that really changed that incorporates Beagle that I can think of is the updated menu they pushed.

If anyone can please help, that would be much appreciated.
