[SOLVED] SuSE/postfix to forward root's email

SOLVED: Removed Postfix (a shame, yes) and re-installed Sendmail. Took the company default sendmail.cf, restarted the service, all is well.

All:

Pretty basic stuff, but I'm not super familiar with SuSE/yast.

I did:

Code:
yast mail
All I want to do is forward root's email to our mail hub, then it gets delivered to myself, and another user.

Mail server: mailhub.company.com

I already have aliases for root in /etc/aliases.

Aliases: user_1@company.com,user_2@company.com \root

The SuSE box exists in DNS as well.

Tried restarting postfix, still no go.

Any assistance, greatly appreciated.

The correct alias format is

root: user_1@company.com, user_2@company.com

Make sure you then run "newaliases"

Fixed the aliases, but still no mail. :-\

Basically, all I want Postfix to do is forward root's email to me via a mailhub we have local here.

Yast has the option to set it up for you, but I was just wondering which entries are necessary to make it happen.

Thanks again - going to keep plugging away.

I don't know SuSE's configuration, or Yast, but if you show the various options, we can explain them to you.

Postfix server: labmachine.company.com

Relay server: mailhub.company.com

Basically, I just want to create an alias for myself, and have all root's email from labmachine forwarded to me.

I understand how mail servers and clients work, I'm just trying to get the 'quick and dirty' method to get this running.

Any assistance, greatly appreciated.

P.S. Doing command line through a telnet session seems to work, but doing something like 'dmesg | sendmail root' does not.

Then edit /etc/aliases by hand, and remember to run "newaliases" once done.
