Suse on usb drive

Hey everyone .. have u tried installing your linux distribution on usb drive?

http://www.pendrivelinux.com/usb-sus...drive-install/

I was wondering if it is possible to install a completely custom linux distribution (for example use xfce and not kde).

Do u think if that is possible?

The howto you link to uses a suse live disk to repartition the pendrive - spends most of it's time there in fact - then gets you to install an image from pendrive-linux (step 22). Creating the image is the important part.

The basic process is similar to the general install method, except you use a compressed filesystem instead of the defaults.

The old school way is just to get a live CD and copy it's files over.

... for slax, but shows the method.

However - there is a neat set of scripts which can take an existing installation and move it to a live edition on removable media. Used to be just for CDR but the site now claims to work with USB pen drives too.
