SuSE Mail Server

Howdy all,

I'm trying to set up a apache/php/mysql/mail server. The first three are a cinch. But, I'm having problems figuring out how to setup the server so that it can send and receive mails.

I tried following this guide:
http://www.delouw.ch/linux/Postfix-C...tml/index.html

But in the end I couldn't get cyrus to start imap. I've tried that install twice but it's just no good. Bascially, all I want is to set up mail so that with the website log in system I'm experimenting with can send emails out to people who register for verification. I tried setting up the MTA but that didn't work either.

I'm about ready to give up on SuSE and try my fortunes with Mandriva to see if it's easier to set up a mail server with that distro. The thing that kills me about SuSE is that uninstalling a package through YaST generates hundreds of dependencies...too many to process. But, I'd be very grateful for any suggestions that can help me figure out SuSE an mail.

Thanks.

Have a look at some of the stuff at
http://www.postfix.org/docs.html

I don't think your problem is likely to be related to suse, but I've never tried it so I don't know for sure.

Postfix is pretty simple to set up, and I now use Dovecot for IMAP which is a cince (although I did use Cyrus before and don't recall it being too bad either)
