SUSE Linux Licensing...Are there any for desktop version?

Hello -I just recently purchased SUSE Linux Professional 9.3 from the SUSE/Novell's website. My question is, does it need to be activated in a certain period of time like in Windows XP? Remember, I dont mind NOT having technical support.

I just want to also ask, that I have another computer in Europe, will SUSE Linux Pro CDs work on that PC if I were to install it on that machine or not? In other words, will SUSE Linux Pro 9.3 run on multiple machines or is it just limited to only one machine? Can I install it on many machines as I like?

I am fully aware that for SUSE Linux for Enterprise Servers there are licensing policies. But what about for SUSE Linux Professional?

**Please Note: That I do not mind NOT having the tech support**

I just want to know if I can install it on MORE THAN one computer....or, can I also burn them for my friends and stuff?

I have just noticed a Registration code on the back of the CD cover. Is this code ONLY for if you want tech support or is it for the operating system like in Windows XP?

Thank you

You'll probably get a lot of different answers here.

Best thing to do is read the license agreement that pops up when you start your installation. It says you can make copies and distribute for both your use and anybody outside of your organization. Do, I say it's OK. It seems LQ site here thinks differently.

The registration number is solely for you to register on Novell's website to get support from them should you need it. There is nothing similar to Windows Activation.

Like I said, Not having the tech support is OK. Thats fine with me.

But, all I want to know is can I install it on many computers as I want? Or, is it limited to only ONE computer?

Now, I have posted this question I beleive on the Mandrake forum and I got reassuring replies... But the reason Im asking this again on this forum, is because SUSE is more of a commercial linux product. Its more geared towards a commercially available linux product...

But yes, all I want to know is that could it be installed on many machines or is it limited to only one machine?

And remember, I DO NOT mind not having tech support..

EVEN if its a purchased boxed version from SUSE/Novell's website?

Remember, I did not download these....I purchased them from their website.

So, just to confirm here. I COULD install it on as many computers as I want to....Right?

Thanks for the quick reply.

SuSE license for making copies for other computers

I installed the free internet download SuSE 9.2 iso and got only the GPL license restriction, but when I went to SuSE download mirrors and got additional software some made me accept their own license. All the licenses that I downloaded was labeled "free for non-commercial use". So there could be some danger using boxed unlicensed SuSE for commercial production I quess. For example, MP3 would be ok to play your songs but don't use the MP3 code to make a commercial player application that you are going tosell. RedHat also had a boxed restricted office application gefore the got AbiWord and Open Office. Applix wasn't it?
