SuSE Linux 10.1/Yast installation source

I am experiencing a problem with trying to get into Yast after registering an installation source, and accepting the GnuPG Key. When I try to get into Yast, it freezes. I thought I could use the command line to unregister the offending source as a workaround, however I can't remember how to do it from the command line. :confused:

That is, providing SuSE 10.1 does still have the capability.

Does anyone remember how one would unregister a source from the command line? Particularly the steps in order. (Soory. It's my irrepressible anal nature to have order)

Thank you. :Pengy:

I can't really help you with YAST, but I highly recommend using SMART for all package management.

Pros:
-Faster
-Handles dependencies a lot better
-No GPG Key trouble
-Comes with the following sources in default:
* SUSE security updates
* SUSE normal updates
* SUSE 10.1
* Packman
* Guru

Cons:
-none

SuSE Linux 10.1/Smart installer

Thanks for the suggestioJens. I do have the Smart installer installed, only to get "Configuration is read-only", when I try to invoke it from the command line.

The Smart icon only says, "Updating channels". Seems like something is really hosed.

With 10.1 I would consider using SMART, or y2pmsh (yast2 package manager shell)

smart has to be run as root, just like Yast this link shows the install.

Soooo easy I love this program. and it's fast. Guru is SuSE man of the year for me.

The "Suse Diary" is worthwhile to read, it will take you through the process, step by step on how to use Suse's new package management system Zenworks Management Daemon ( ZMD ) which is also tied in with Yast.

Yast would hang up on my system, much the way you describe.

If you use SMART, it should work perfectly if you read the several posts in this forum.

SMART works great and its super fast.
Just make sure you run it as root.
