SUSE Linux 10.0 OSS boot hangs after trying Mac OS X DVD
 

After a long time of using SUSE Linux I decided to try Mac OS X. I booted it and it gave an error message in 4 languages saying that I should restart. I rebooted and it happened again. I decided to go back to SUSE Linux and booted into it. It, as usually, first showed the blue, animated booting screen and I waited. After a few seconds it disappeared and the console showed up. It kept listing messages and finally stopped with this one:
Pressing enter went to the next line. I could type stuff and even backspace worked, but it didn't respond. I tried booting again and the same thing happened.
I think that right before I last turned off the working SUSE Linux I performed an update. However, I don't know what was updated.
How can I fix this?

I think I have the same problem. I didn't use a MacOS CD but I updated something and now booting freezes at around the same step. The strange thing is that I can do a ctrl-alt-del and it will go into runlevel 6 (reboot), during this time, the display updates telling me that runlevel 5 was reached...no idea where it is failing.

rioch, i have the same problem currently.
I updated some packages via Software Management and now when I restart it hangs in runlevel 3, right around Powersaved. If I go into Failsafe mode, It will work fine. I can log in as root, type "init 5", then "kdm", and I'm back in.
Very odd.

Have you guys had any success fixing yet?

I'm about ready to "blow" the harddrive away and just load 10.1 beta 5 for kicks, but I need to backup my data.

After a recent update I got the same problem. On mine when it freezes up at "Starting Powersaved" I press CTRL+D and it finishes rebooting. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Ctrl-D allowed me to enter the system properly. However, this should be done every startup, which of course isn't nice. I can post YaST logs, if they'd help.

its a problem with the updated KDM and is being handled presently, no worries.

:scratch: you guys are using the new mac intels right?

darkhatter, you mean Mac OS X for x86? Yes, that's what I tried, some sort of bloody beta.

This worked to solve this problem on a P-4 Dell.

It was true for me that installing the packages
kdebase3.3-3.5.1-33 and kdebase-kdm3-3.5.1-33
does solve the problem as victorh says. If for any reason anyone has problems getting both of these packages in your YaST2>Software Management you can get them here:

I download files of this type to my home folder. Then you just open home folder, right click on the file, select 'Actions>Install with YaST2'. Simple as that!;)
