SuSE installation problems

Hello!

I ve been trying to install SuSE Linux 9.1 Pro in my computer
but it moves really slow. When i changed console i saw
many messages that where say something like " Bad irq ....
Disabling irq # " and then something like a stack trace ....
The installation moves on but it is REALLY slow.

my computer has:

Intel Pentium 2.4G
1.5 Gb RAM
ASUS P4P800-E DLX
HSF conexant modem
NEC 3500AG
SONY DVD
WDC 40, 80 GB IDE
WDC 120 GB SATA
Pinnacle PCTV Pro TV Card

anyone has any idea??

Thanx :-)

hi there,

no idea about the irq messages.
but afaik dma in your cd drive is DISABLE during Suse 9.1 instalation. this can make the process REALLY slow.

Which irq number is it having trouble with?

I think it's most likely a hardware detection problem. You can try booting with acpi turned off. I think all you need to do is select the boot option you would have used anyway and type:
acpi=off

Good luck.

it seems that it is having problems with the irq #11
i disabled that irq from BIOS but it then had problems with irq #15
i tried the option acpi=off but nothing changed.

IRQ 11 is often used for PCI steering (using one irq for the entire PCI bus, very common). The problem might be on your PCI bus, either video card, PCI card, or something on the motherboard.

I'm not sure I know enough to correctly direct you, but I would start by pulling all possible PCI components out. (This assumes you know how to handle hardware and protect against ESD)

Alright i found out something:

i changed the conf from BIOS of IDE configuration from PATA+SATA to PATA
and then IRQ#11 changed to IRQ#5 for hda1 and IRQ#4 for hda2
(these readings are taken from slackware 10.0 cd boot)
Anybody any ideas?
