SuSE installation failure - installer won't even load - on AMD64 RS480

I have a AMD64 motherboard with RS480 chipset. I downloaded SUSE-10.0-OSS-x86_64-GM cd's. Checked the md5 checksums and booted of the first disk. I get to the installation GUI. I tried "normal install", "no acpi" and "safe mode" without any success.

I selected text mode to try and establish what the problem is. There seems to be some kind of error since there's no exact point at which the installation seems to crash. The console has just stopped at numerous places but most of the time after initializing USB devices whilst loading the installer.

The furthest I got in the installation process was till the driver select menu. (Since I'm using a SATA HDD (with uli 1573 controller) I thought I might need a driver, so I got one and choose the driver install option). SuSE detected all my HDD's and partitions, but even though I did everything exactly the same I wasn't able to get that far in the installation again.)

Does anyone have any advice or any ideas?
At this stage anything would be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Use 10.1 instead?

Thanks I'm still downloading it.

Though it seems the problem was my DVD-RW drive (Sony DRU-810A). Used a different one and it worked fine :)
