Suse FTP install = Professional editon?

Greetings.

Maybe this is a stupid question. I just messed up my Suse 9.1 Pro distro but I don't like to reïnstall it when there is already a newer version of it. The problem is I want to be sure to install the 9.2 Professional editon (so not the personal which you can download freely).

My question: I know you can install Suse 9.2 by FTP, but is that the professional editon or the personal?

ftp install Pro or Personal

The answer in short is both and neither....

The ftp version does not include any of the commercial packages in the professional edition. It does however include ALOT of packages not in the PERSONAL version.

Thanks for the answer. I'll think I'm gonna give it a try.

One more question: Will I have stuff like KDevelop and will I be able to compile stuff smooth without having to install all sorts of libraries. Last time I installed the personal ISO and it was terrible. There wasn't even a gcc compiler included. I don't want something like that to happen again.

Ftp install

Well since I'm running suse 9.2 professional I can't vouch 100% for the ftp install but you should be able to select gcc and have it grab all the requirements so you can compile. I know I did with the suse 9.1 ftp install.

You can always add the ftp site as a yast install source and add any packages you need later..it will handle dependencies.

Ok, thanks for the replies, but I think I'm simply gonna install the 'old' Suse 9.1 Pro again so I'm sure I won't get anything unexpected.

Personally I think 9.2 is alot better then 9.1 but to each their own. You may just want to try a 9.2 install and if you don't like it..then revert to 9.1.

Well, I guess I can always update to 9.2 if I buy it. But for now, Suse 9.1 Pro is running smooth. The only real reason I wanted 9.2 was because Novell claims there is better WLAN support, but I'll work it out with ndiswrapper.
