SuSE Desktop Panel
 

hmm... I goofed.

Short version:
My primary logon (non-admin) no longer gets the panel, background, start applications or multiple desktops when I logon. It appears to be due to an uninstall of SuSE HelpCenter. Reinstalled and still broke. Created a new user and he's good. I'm interested in what files need to be fixed on the broken ID?

Long version:
I was looking at installing a web server. I wanted to make sure I didn't have any conflicts so I was perusing the directories under /svr/www and noticed htdig. It didn't seem necessary that I would need that program because I didn't plan to compile web searches.

I went to remove htdig and it was a dependency for SuSE Help Center. I felt I didn't need the Help Center either, so I uninstalled it too.

Well, then my desktop was crippled. Or it felt like it at least. I reinstalled SuSE Help Center, but it was no joy.

So, I created a new user account and set it up for autologon and everything "looks" good on it. But, my shortcuts and browser settings are of course not the same. I'd like my settings back.

Any recommendations? I really just need to know which file got screwed up for the panel I think.

Usually those settings are located in /home/<user>/.kde, but I have no idea how they got lost in your case. You can always restore the default settings by deleting this folder, but how to get your settings back, I don't know...

Your suggestion saved me a few hours of work trying to figure out where to start. I was able to fix it by copying .kde/share/config/kickerrc under the new user's home directory to my old user.

I believe I may have screwed it up when mucking around in the /tmp directory while copying the rpm down and such. I see that a lot of the .kde profile stuff is linked to the /tmp directories.

I'm open to suggestions on where rpm's should be saved.
