Hmmm... I don't know why you say that Packman site is slow, I have just downloaded package 25 MB for everage speed of 123kb/s
Besides, you can also add Gururpm site so sources and happily download the stuff

Yes, where are versions downloaded from packman? You said that you did and that you have added local sources to Yast. So what is it? I really don't know what you have done and what you have not done.
server name (select protocol ftp)
packman.iu-bremen.de
server directory
/suse/10.0/

Since when guru has 64-bit apps?
probably you are not using much of packman. For last month the only way to get something from guru was by downoading from web site on the disk and then installation.
Up to higher level directory
Directory: i686 10/30/2005 02:47:00 AM
Directory: noarch 10/30/2005 02:47:00 AM
Directory: src 10/30/2005 02:45:00 AM
now explain please which is 64-bit? He is using 64-bit OS. He may install 32-bit, however the reason of using 64-bit is to use 64-bit (if possible). Guru does not have xine anyway. So eaither Multimedia pack (not available for SuSE 10.0) would have to be installed (guru software rquires xine installation) which anyway have problem with DVD (encrypted) or packman xine/libxine wich does not have above problem (libdvdcss is still required). Guru is not a solution in this case.
This is simply amazing, I have been trying to resolve this simple issue for 2 days and have not gone anywhere. With Mandriva Linux, I would have been done within a few minutes.
The packages I speak of came straight off the post that you posted.
If you click on those links you can download the RPM packages that go with the x86_64bit Suse. Here they are roughly 19 placed inside my folder I named ~/Xine.
I don't undertsnad why this post continues to drag on without any result.
My question still stands, is it possible to play a DVD movie that I own on Suse?
If there is, can someone, anyone give my a method that is reasonable that works?
I appreciate your input.....

Neither do It is so easy.
I explained how to add local sources to Yast. I dont plan to explain it again. You need to install libdvdcss (i386 only rpm, or get source) to watch encrypted dvds.
You definitely need to use your brain. There is not much I can do about it. Everything you need I explained. If this is still uncomprehensible, there are other threads that might be clearer.

Yes
By the way, packman explains (xine page) that you need also:
additionally needed binary packages *:
for a): w32codec-all-20050412-0.pm.0.i586.rpm (Win32-Codecs)
for a): speex-1.1.10-0.pm.0.i586.rpm (speex)
for f): libfame-0.9.1-0.pm.3.i586.rpm (libfame)
for i): libstk-0.2cvs20050823-0.pm.0.i586.rpm (libstk)
This music and movie thing is a huge irritation. get Lame or libmp3lame to play back mp3s. the simplest way to get movies to run? delete all the xine packages. then reinstall unaltered xine packages from rpmsearch or xine homepage. Install libdvdcss.
The easiest thing to do for me was. Bypass it all. Download and install w32codecs-all then download and install the ogle movie player. install ogle and possibly a gui and your there. no huge steps like with mplayer. no hassle of oh we cant play dvds sorry.
if you need other formats you can always get libquicktime,divx4linux etcetera. as for me? I wasted enough time on this entire mess.
I have tried to explained exactly how I added my software RPM's to my "xine" folder inside my home.
When I go the "software management" inside yast CC, I always get this pop-up window message that says "<2> Installation sources not refreshed" and I must press the "OK" at the center of this pop-up window in order to continue.
I do not know if by pressing this "OK" if it automatically refreshes my Installation sources or not, but it attempts to.
When I press the "OK" it proceeds with another pop-up message telling me this - "Refreshing Packman (Suse Linux 10.0) http://packman.iu-bremen.de//suse/10.0/" , then after 4 minutes or so I get an error message saying: "Media connection failed couldn't connect to host". At this post I can press "retry", "skip" or "disable source", in which I choose to hit "retry". And the samething repeats itself. If I click "skip" I get a message that says "Installation source not refreshed".
Yes I have seen when I type in the word "Xine" inside the search window, that I do get a lot of packages that appear, however I do not seem to see any of the packages that are inside of my Xine folder.
At this point I do not know what else to do.
Perhaps this makes it clearer to where I may be missing something obvious that I cannot seem to see or grasp.
Thanks for your help.....

what this has to do with 64-bit xine for suse 10.0?
Here is where I stand on this issue of trying to play a DVD movie on Suse. I have failed and failed and failed. I have tried to contact Suse tech support and they offered none. I feel it its ridiculous that I can't play movies on Suse after 1) I purchased Suse from a retail store, and 2) I purchased my DVD player from same store, which plays on a windows operating sytem, so in other words, I have paid to use this damn thing and I can't.
I went into Yast and I followed someone else's advice, I uninstalled Real Player, Amarok and Kaffine and installed "Real Player Gold-for Linux". But when I insert my DVD movie, I don't know where to find in the file the movie DVD in the "open file" section or the "open location" directory and I can't find the way to play the movie, nor do I see my DVD Rom drive.
Any tips as to a site that might explain a way to do this?
I appreciate your help....

I am new to Suse so please forgive for being a pest, but when I go to "Installation Source" in Yast I make sure that the top line that says Suse Linux Version 10.0 dvd:////;devices=/dev/hdd is "off" for status and "off" for refresh. I did this by pressing the disable enable/disable button.
I went to software packages and looked for RealPlayer and I un-installed it, along with Kaffeine & Amarok, by clicking on the check mark until it turned into a trash can. After that I went to my RPM of RealPlayer Gold I downloaded and double clicked on it and installed (so I thought) through Yast.
Then I type "Real" in "RUN" window and Real Player opens, but does not play DVD.
Do you have a Instant Message account?
I appreciate any help, I want to figure this out.

I am running SUSE 10.0 on my comp ( ATHLON 2800+, ASUS K8N-E Deluxe mobo) which is 64bit OS. This is my 10th version of SUSE since SUSE 9.1. I must say I am a noob regarding SUSE. I have been installing and removing it 1001 times since I started Linux this year. And one thing is clear I did not install or force to install any package with unresolved dependencies.
I am using apt to install, to update and also to upgrade my system. I found the following link:
This are the sources which I have installed into my YAST "change installation source".
As for DVD, you definitely should remove YAST packages and then use apt-get install (package name). But as I said you must stick to the installation instructions as they are described in apt4suse link.
I hope it can help. I have no problems with my system at all.
