SUSE 9 ftp installation

I'm trying to install SUSE 9.3 by ftp but I always got this problem "An error occured during the network configuration. Your network card probably was not recognized by the kernel".

But I first tried the SUSE 9.3 Live eval on DVD and it was working very well.

Can you help me please?

What IP address is reported for your network card?

Did you read the Installation notice that you NEED to have a external router and can't be using dialup to reach the internet?

Have you considered downloading SUSE9.3 or OpenSUSE 10?

Re: SUSE ftp installation

I readed this installation instruction

When I doing the installation, after I choosed Ftp installation I got the folowing questions:

Automatic configuration via dhcp? No

Enter your ip address:

Enter your netmask:

If you need a gateway to reach the server enter the ip address of the gateway. If you do not need a gateway enter your own ip address:

And here I got the error saying that may be the kernel did not detect my network card.

I have an external router D-link DI-604 that share my ADSL Internet connection on 2 comptuter.

All the answer to the previous question was offered by default I only push on "Enter".

Thanks for your help!

SUSE 9 ftp installation

About two months ago, I did an FTP installation of SUSE 9.3 on my Dell Dimension 3000. This was the first time I installed via FTP on any machine, so I ran into road blocks and had to pick my way through it. But I DID run into the same problem you are having. Now, I am trying to recall what I did, but this should be pretty close, what I learned was that right before I connected to the FTP and right before it says that it cannot find my network card, I had to choose to "Load Modules", then the module would be the "Network Card", then I browse the list of network cards for mine. You have to know the make and model of yours even if it is an "on-board" NIC. AFTER you load the network card, you can proceed to install via FTP. When asked for "Auto DHCP", most likely, if you have a typical home broadband/ADSL/high-speed SoHo setup, your answer would be "Yes" (not "No"). The IP should be the mirror you are choosing to install from. Try this:

You may be asked for the directory:

HINT: DO NOT USE THE MAIN SUSE FTP MIRROR!! This "" FTP mirror is much faster than the main suse mirror.

Let me know if this is the problem you are having...
