At xfce.org? They have graphical installers on the site which are ready for download-and-double-click, but with over 1000 posts under your belt I think the source may be fine for you!

It is possible that SUSE just doesn't recognise xfce as a valuable, or at least popular, window manager, and for this reason have decided not to put it on their CDs. SUSE comes with KDE, and as SUSE is mainly aimed at newbies, my guess is that SUSE didn't think that newbie's would like the look of xfce (preferring the memory-hogging KDE), and so thought it was just a waste of space including it on their CDs. Just my thoughts,

Ouch, that sounds pretty harsh.

The goal of SuSE is to make a realiable business server/desktop distribution. Don't think of it as a "hobbiest" project like everything else. It only puts in as much software as it can reliably "customize" to make a complete look and feel through the entire distro. It would be impossible to do the same while rewriting every supported app to fit in the same mold for 15 or 16 different window managers. It picked KDE. While you are free to run whatever you want from the community, SuSE does not want to give the impression that it will support doing so with the same reliability.

If you go to ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.3/suse/i586/ there are a number of packages for xfce. You mentioned installing SuSE from 5CDs; would that be the 5 CD download version? If so, they probably cut xfce from that edition though it might be on the DVD edition or maybe they only include it with the boxed set.
