Suse 9.3 wireless
 

I have installed SuSE 9.3 on my emachine m5310 laptop.
Almost every thing is running splendidly. One of a couple of issues is my wireless card is not working. It is under the Broadcom 4400 family of network cards. I need to get this working can any one help. Tell me what you need to know and I will get that for you. Please help.

How does it show up in yast and how are you configuring it?

What are you using as an Access Point and what settings/security do you have on it?

I am running Suse 9.3 no probs with direct cable lan connection. when I open YaST I go through the network adapters and look for the wireless card and it isn"t there. I select a wireless card name it as eth1 and I get a list of modules that aren't for my card. I have a Broadcom 4400 802.11g( i think that is the modle number i am trying to find the specific modle number as I write this)
I am using a d-link wireless router as my AP .
The thing i think needs to be addressed first is the recognition of the onboard WLAN adapter.

That is your first problem. You cant name a wireless card eth1, you need to name it wlan0 or wlan1, etc.

Mind you this may be moot, if you can't find drivers for your card, you will more than likely need to install ndiswrapper and get the latest Windows versions of the drivers to install the card that way.

Then as for your Access Point, are you using WEP or WPA or running unsecured? Do you have it set to broadcast SSID? How about the IP addy, default 192.168.0.1 or did you change its Lan addressing?

Do you have NDISWrapper installed? Does your card need it?

If yes, then you need to setup a new network interface using YaST. The obvious features are the path to follow (Wireless interface, etc), but when you get to which module to use, you simply put 'ndiswrapper' into the box. Everything else should be straight forward.

Once this is setup, a restart may be useful, and the next problem is finding the network.

Having got this far using a Belking 54G 7000uk WLAN card, I'm having trouble finding a network, although since the network I'm looking for is currently unsecured (simply so I could convince SuSE to see it) it may be tripping at the lack of encryption key. If anyone can help with this, I may be able to ditch Windoze again.
