Angry Suse 9.3 upgrade disaster

I now find that the only window manager that works is TWM.

very strange....

if I try to start kde, I get a strange mix of KDE & TWM.

don't really understand what went wrong. The upgrade didn't go fine, in that my monitor wasn't recognised (but that's usual), so a bit of fiddling to get the display set. Otherwise all well until the end.

I'll try a fresh install. At least I can move all my files with TWM.

MY QUESTION:

Have others had similar upgrade problems???
