Would it be possible for some one to provide me with an extract of their boot image (hopefully a Nero one) if it is legal. I have the 5 ISO CDs and tried to convert them using this process. It seems there is a trick I've missed. And the DVD won't boot although I create a bootable DVD with Nero.
Just wondering.
1)do you have a working CDrom?
2) is it the default boot device?
3) when you burned the iso images did you turn the properties of the project(creating the CD) to an iso9660 format or did it burn in Joliet format for windows?
1. DVD uses less physical space and there would be 4 less discs to worry about. Which no doubt will have some asking why I didn't download the DVD ISO or do it now? My connection will not allow and I had someone else download the CD ISOs who now no longer has their connection.
2. I am curious as to how this can be done.
There is nothing wrong with my DVDROM and it is able to boot CDs.
Anyway I eventually managed to extract the boot image from the 1st CD and create a bootable DVD which boots. I then proceeded to continue with the install. All seemed to go fine until it came to the end of installing CD1. It goes to the bootloader installation part of the process and reboots. Then it loads up LILO which still shows the Mandriva LILO but actually loads SuSE when I select Mandriva. This continues until a kernel panic error is reached.
I then figured that the reboot must be due to the fact that I tried to create a DVD from the CD ISOs and so eventually burnt the ISOs to CDs. Again after CD1, it goes to the bootloader installation part except now there is an error along the lines of LBA32 expected.
This would be the 3rd Linux install I am doing from ISOs burned onto CDs and it is the 1st time that after CD1 it jumps to the bootloader installations section and the reboots. Is this meant to happen?
Suse will reboot after the first CD is installed but it should contiinue with the install. The link in your first POST stated that the authour of the "how to" did this on a windows box. Different steps if done a Linux box? maybe?
Are trying to do a dual boot system? Or are you trying to load Suse over Mandriva.
I belive what is happening is the the Suse boot loader has taken over the mbr, I belive durning the first CD of Suse the gui interface will has you how you want to boot Suse.
If suse is fully installed you may need to fix lilio and coreectly point mandriva to the correct / partition.
When I configure a multi linux boot I always have a 100 MB boot partition.
I think there might be a problem with the 1st ISO. A sector is not found on 2 CDs i've burnt the ISO onto when I verify the 1st disc on one of the install options.
