Suse 9.3 Password encryption
Hi ,
We have to transfer from an RH 7.2 samba server to a suse 9.3 samba server.
There are about 200 user accounts (all are samba users , and are defined both in passwd and smbpasswd).
We would like to recreate all users without too much work (ie avoiding useradd+passwd+smbpasswd for each).
We are OK to type once for each user: name and password.
We wrote a small perl script to do this , it writes a file containins twice the password followed by <LF> ,
and cat's this file to a pipe to smbpasswd ... and works.
We then tried to do same thing with useradd (OK) and passwd , we have the message 'Reenter password' but then Password change aborted,
Authentification token manipulation error ... and password is not set.
We tried then to use useradd with -p option , but could not crypt the password to set in -p option.
Tried: openssh password , mkpasswd , grub-md-crypt none of them gives the right password seen in /etc/shadow when created by
passwd.
Thanks for any better idea..
