Suse 9.3 FTP Install

I am trying to do an FTP install on a 500mhz P3 with 128mb of ram.

But everytime it tells me I don't have enough ram for Yast and need a swap disk. According to the Novell/Suse page tho, it should work if I have 128mb of RAM.

I would point it to a swap disk, except this used to be a Win2K system.

Does anyone have any ideas?

When you installed Linux, it should have prompted you to create a swap disk.

Go into Yast | System | Partitioner

If you're lucky, you might already have a partition that can be turned into a swap space.

Otherwise, you might be able to go into [Create] and make a new partition (without destroying any of your original data).

You won't "hurt" anything until you click [Apply]

'Hope that helps .. PSM

I didn't eve nget to that point. It downlaoded the 64mb ramdisk content from novell, and then told me that I no longer had enough ram to load yast! It then told me to point it to a swap disk. I didn't even give me the opportunity to create one.

Hmm, just an idea. Could you use Ranish partition manager to creat the swap partition? Then boot with the ftp install disc? I just like Ranish, but any utility that you can use from a boot cd/floppy would work.
