Does it have support for a Speedtouch USB DSL modem?

is the suse 9.3 dvd available on torrent? i'm only finding the cd iso's. I have only blank dvd's to burn, plus it's annoying swapping from 5 cd's

knetknight 04-19-2005 10:14 AM

Check this link.

I just added a user-submitted script that's supposed to merge the 5 individual ISOs into a single large ISO that you can burn to a DVD. I haven't tried it myself though because I use the CDs to make network install source instead which, for me, works even better than a DVD.

Does anyone know how to setup a network install from a windows machine. I have a windows machine only where I have the ISO's and I want to install 9.3 on my laptop. I found a HOW-TO but it describes how to setup a linux distro as a server but nothing about windows. I also have the 9.2 on my laptop at the moment dual booting with xp (requirement for school - for some odd reason), can I move the ISOs to a fat32 parition and access them from there some how?

I'm moving for the fisrt time to suse... It seems very nice but...
... should I trust these iso: http://www.knetdome.com/bt/?torrent=suse93 ???

I have read something strange about them here:
http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-l...-Apr/1300.html

have you installed from them without any problems?

That's the same torrent I used to grab the iso's that have happily converted my system to 9.3. I would say to give them a go, and not to worry to much about what is written on the mailing lists.

The iso's work like a charm.

5cd's .... hehehe, go to torrentspy and there is a DVD torrent currently on the lose!

PS: It is a Dual Layer image, so you will a) need DL media (a PITA to get), b) need to mount the image on another computer on your network and do an FTP install.

:)

Hi,

I want to mess around with suse linux professional 9.3 on a spare desktop PC I have. I'm definitely new to the linux world.

In my "lab" I've got a Windows XP Media Center PC, a Novell Linux Desktop 9 Laptop and then a Windows 2000 PC. I want to nuke the Windows 2000 install and replace it with suse linux pro 9.3. I don't need or want a dual-boot system.

So, I've done the following:

1) downloaded the entire "9.3" directory from a Suse mirror (ftp://suse.cs.utah.edu/pub/suse.com/suse/i386/9.3/) to the directory "suse" on my XP machine. (Note - I can move it to my linux 9 laptop if need be)

To be clear insde the suse directory is the following:
  • iso folder
  • media.1 folder
  • suse folder (with tons of stuff inside it)
  • the archives.gz file
  • and a bunch of other small files

2) created a boot CD from the ISO file in the ISO folder (E.g. double-clicked the ISO file, it launched my burning software ...) I did not customize any config files, etc.

3) booted up the win2k machine with the boot CD. The Suse install software (Yast? - a greenish screen) starts up, I choose "installation", the linux kernel starts, checks hardware, then throws the error saying "can't find the linux SUSE Installation Source - Activating Manual Set-up Process".

4) I press OK, then select english language, english keyboard, start installation or system, start installation or update, then I can select from CD-ROM, Network or Hard Disk.

I've tried all three options with no success. I think I'm either going about the install incorrectly or I'm messing up the syntax of SMB shares, FTP directories or hard disk directories.

CD-ROM - I can burn a bunch of the 9.3 directory onto a DVD, but not all of it.

Network -
SMB - I have the "suse" directory shared on my XP machine

FTP - I have an ftp server running on the xp machine - root directory is the "suse" directory. Any recommendations on how to proceed?

Hard Disk - I've got all the files from the 9.3 directory on the "d" drive of the Win2k PC (the one I'm trying to set up as a 9.3 machine)

Any ideas on how I should proceed?

Best regards,

Buster
 :newbie:

Hey Buster,

I'm pretty sure, and I think some other threads can confirm this, that Novell has NOT relased the FTP version of SUSE yet. So, even though there is a bunch of Suse 9.3 stuff on their ftp site this won't enable you to install the OS (using their ftp). There are, however, numerous CD ISO's and DVD ISO's floating around the Bittorrent network that you can install from (they are basically all rips of the store bought SUSE CD/DVD(s)).

If anyone knows different, please speak up.

I do believe you are 100-percent correct.
