Hello all.

I am just replying to apologize for pissing so many people off. Basicially, I paid $80 for SUSE and that money I may as well have flushed down the toilet for all the good it did me.

Is every piece of software in SUSE a piece of crap? No. Is Novell a piece of crap company? No. Does SUSE work for a lot of people? Yes. When I spent $80 on a product that did absolutely nothing for me did I stop to think of these things? Of course not.

When your car doesn't work is there a chance your maintenance or lack thereof of the car is to blame? Possibly. Could it be an error the mechanic that last worked on your car made? Possibly. Could something have just been manufactured wrong in your specific car? Yes. Do you stop to think of these things or do you start cussing and swearing about what a piece of crap the car is and how Ford/Chevy/etc. is such a horrible company? Most people do the latter. Espescially if their rushed to get work done and they can't because either their computer isn't working or their car isn't starting.

Most people when they are mad say things (or type things) without thinking. You do this when you are mad at a product, your spouse or siblings or someone you have just met.

So 1kyle:
Referring to me as a "probably 16 year old" net knowalls is pretty immature in and of itself.

Also, banning someone from the net for expressing their opinion is not only denying people the freedoms that have made the internet so popular, but is also immature.

On 99.9999% of Intel type PC's SUSE 9.2 DOES work --with some exceptions of eseorteric hardware and your wireless connection *Might* or *Might not* work but to say the whole Distro is JUNK just shows your TOTAL IMMATURITY and incapability of making a reasoned and logical argument --so unless you have a coherent point to make please TROLL SOMEWHERE ELSE.
Yes, and my PC was one of the 0.0001% of intel PC's that don't work with SUSE. Did I stop to think of that when my work wasn't getting done with an $80 product that did absolutely nothing for me? A lot of people wouldn't.

I'm not saying that SUSE 9.2 is perfect --but to say it's a load of Junk --please go away and listen to your cr***y music on your IPOD.
I'm not sure what exactly that was supposed to mean...but buy me an Ipod and I'll go ahead and do that.

Yes, but a lot of people would have the common sense to figure out that the product must be working fine for other people or it wouldnt be selling. Also, a lot of people would try it on another computer, or try fixing/re-installing it a couple of times before deciding there was anything wrong with the product.

Did you use the Suse installation support that you paid for? Did you even attempt to use one of the free "LiveCD" iso's that lets you get a 100% free test of your hardware to see just how the system would run? Did you check or even look into the extensive list of supported hardware online on the suse website before purchasing and installing an operating system? Any one of these thngs might have told you it wouldnt work.

To use your earlier analogy...

Probaby not, however, in referring to things I listed above...
Do you walk into the dealership, look at a car that looks nice cause people said nice things about it, slap down your money to buy it and drive off in it without giving it a test drive or looking into any part of its design/features only to take it home and find its too big for your garage?
When the car breaks down, do you sit there, whine and cuss about it and tell all the neighbors for the next few weeks leaving the car to sit broken? Or do you call the mechanic and see about getting it fixed.
Do you automatically go and pick the most expensive car on the car lot and decide that's the one you have to buy without any prior knowledge of how it will perform?

Sure, you spent 80$, you could have spent 40 instead just to try it out. Sure, it didn't work, you could spend some time on the 60 day installation support and try to resolve some of the issues.

There are a dozen things you could have done, and should have done first, and plenty of places (especially here) that you could have come and done the appropriate research first.
As other people have put it...
Yes, you are immature to have started a thread like you did.
If only because there are too many obvious things you could have done, and still havent.

Best Linux Distribution

I have tried Gentoo, Mandrake, SUSE, Slackware, Red Hat, Turbolinux and even Linux From Scratch. I have also tried FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD and Solaris. In my opinion, I find that the best out-of-the-box Linux distribution is SUSE despite any quirks that are sometimes encountered with specific hardware. I find that SUSE has the best installation program hands-down.

I also find that people always seem to say that a distribution sucks when it doesn't work with their hardware. This usually happens because each Linux distribution uses a different default Linux kernel configuration. You will find that if hardware works with a kernel configuration on one particular Linux distribution, it may not work with a kernel configuration on another Linux distribution. This fact often influences the decisions people make about what Linux distribution they choose to use.

Here are some of my ideas for Linux:

- Grsecurity-enabled kernels with hardened toolchains and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) out-of-the-box
- A more proactive approach to security and integrated cryptography (OpenBSD boasts "Only one remote hole in the default install, in more than 8 years!")
- Common/standardized default kernel configuration for all Linux distributions with a controlled process for approving/rejecting Linux distribution-specific kernel patches
- Common/standardized installation program API for all Linux distributions after a thorough review and recommendations by the Linux community

Imagine having a common installer, kernel configuration and security features no matter what Linux distribution you choose to use. Imagine being able to report issues back to a collective of Linux distribution kernel maintainers and have them create fixed ISOs promptly instead of having to wait for the next release of a Linux distribution just to get it to work with your hardware. Finally, imagine being able to boast that Linux works on as many platforms as NetBSD and perhaps even more.

The problem with sticking to suse 9.1 is that they are not updating some of the more important parts of the system. One which is very important to gamers is that Novell has not updated the drivers for it in quite a while. That means that modern games coming out that may use Cedega or Wine won't work properly because Novell hasn't taken the time to update the drivers past the 5536 version.

On another distro I have, an older one, which is FC1 I was able to install and get working the most current driver from Nvidia.

It seems to me that the hype Novell created about their product is just hype. My 2 cents worth.

I recently switched to SuSE 9.2 from Winblows, having tried 9.1 in the past. Been several days, and everything installed painlessly and is working well. Have had no problems. I'm about as "newbie" as you can get and yet this seems incredibly easy for me. I still can access and use my Windows drives as well. I'm very happy.
