SUSE 9.2 student edition

I wanna buy SUSE 9.2 student edition, but whats the diffences between the normal pro version and the student edition?

Its half the price, near enough, for us student types. So i am sceptical that its not a dumbed down version (like ms office for example)

I don't know what's in the student edition. However, an even better deal is to download an ISO image from, for example, linuxiso.org. Burn it to CD, and you're ready to install. I don't think the 9.2 ISO is out yet, but I expect it will appear at approximately the same time that the 9.2 CDs ship, which will be "from beginning of November," says Novell here:

<looks at watch>

From beginning of November? Isn't that now?

the only difference i have seen is the prices as ive bought the Student version in the past, you get all the CD's and DVD's and i have noticed no difference

thanks for that, if thats the case i will indeed spend my studenty money on a SUSE os, instead of beer.....

ok, in addition to beer ;-)

If there is no difference between the full-blown Professional edition of SuSE Pro versus the Student Edition how does one qualify?

Check suse's site for the information about the Educational stuff

mdevilz,

Before I jump over there you seem to have more or less first hand knowledge.

Can you confirm that this is the same new full-blown SuSE 9.2 version that will hit the shelves soon? MS often flogged their "Student Edition"

mdevilz 11-01-2004 07:48 PM

The only difference ive seen between the two versions is that the Student Edition has a Sticker Thrown on it

as you still get the DVD's and CD's and Manuals

mdevilz,

I'll go with the full store shelf edition. I'd rather buy a used text to save the cash.

Thanks for jumping in here.

thanks once again,

I did read the edu site first and it links to 9.2 pro. This was why i was unsure of differences

BTW, the .iso's come out a bit after the retail release. Took 9.1 at least a couple of weeks after release to be available for download.

I'm sorry to say though that SuSE has only released live eval CD's and DVD's and the 1st out of 3 cd's for Personal but seeing there is no longer A Personal version ... oh they also have a boot ISO for the FTP install
