SuSE 9.2 + KDE illegible fonts
I'm using SuSE 9.2 and KDE, and in many applications the fonts look quite weird and are illegible. In konqueror, the fonts are fine, and in Tk applications they are fine as well, but many GUI apps that I download (e.g. winetools) have illegible fonts.

Is there a way to fix this?

Check out this thread. if you follow along with the advice in there. you'll end up with fantastic looking fonts. In my opinion better than windows.

Good Luck :)

Thanks, but that wasn't quite the problem...

Either way, it seems that it somehow fixed itself :P

Some things that I did that may have fixed it for some reason are:

I went into the control center, then the font control panel but didn't change anything. Then I went into the font part of the login options and didn't change anything there either...

well, thanks anyway :P

I had trouble with 9.3 with how Arial was displayed. I didn't actually have the Arial ttf font and the poor rendering was as a result of font substitution. Choosing an installed san serif font like Suse Sans or Bitstream yields the results we all expect. SuSE does provide Microsoft fonts as a YOU option. That might also fix your problem. I love MS Comic Sans.
