SUSE 9.2 Internet via LAN does not work

hey people,
I installed SUSE 9.2 on a Accer Travelmate Laptop in dualboot with windows XP.

THE PROBLEM: I can not surf the internet (Connection failed)

I get Internet via a LAN Network and I have a Broadcom netcard - In XP everything works fine, in SUSE I can access local web site and the local net (access other computers in the LAN) but not the internet.

I saw other posts on this forum on this topis but it was not any help for me.

here are the outputs of ifconfig, cat /etc/resolv.conf, netstat -rn

I would be VVVVERY happy if someone could help me. A can not use SUSE
without having internet access.

idefix:~ # ifconfig

Just to be sure check if /etc/resolv.conf really exists. Even if empty the file sometimes is required and will report a error similiar to what your listing shows.

If it doesn't exists, as root, just: cat >/etc/resolv.conf
then ctl D to close and back out.
also check owners and permissions.

Just a shot in the dark but remember:

a journey begins with a single step
life is one day at a time

for luchticha:
It appears that your locked into the loopback. LAN stuff can be a head ack for sure. Best I can advise at this stage, since I am not fully involved with LAN's is break out the book and find out how to stop the loop back. Usually it's only a one time test -- usually.

It could be indeed e a MAC problem. XP seems to use sometimes a NetworkBridge with a different MAC as the networkcard. It seems that I am registered at the lan with this "false" networkcard and SUSE uses the real one....
I will see if it help...
thank you all!

For luchticha:

Have you used YAST to activate your NIC card ? I asked the question since sometimes the most obvious is forgotten to do.

It was e a MAC problem. XP uses sometimes a NetworkBridge with a different MAC as the one of the fisical networkcard. It seems that I am registered at the local lan with this "false" networkcard and SUSE uses the real one.... (false network cards are the one which do not start with 00:....). So I told the network administrator and he registered me real MAC.
Now everything works fine.
thank you all!
