Suse 9.2 and Hotplug

One thing I need to know before I even LOOK at 9.2 is has the HOTPLUG and USB stuff been fixed yet.

I actually had to go back to 9.0 because I couldn't get USB external disks working properly on 9.1

1) First using HOTPLUG my MAXTOR ext USB disk wasn't accessible -- it created a directory in /media but I couldn't see any files on it. The filesystem on it is NTFS as this disk is also plugged in (not at the same time of course) to Windows machines / laptops.

2) I as suggested in the Hardware databse upgraded the HOTPLUG module via YOU and disabled hotplugging for the device so I could mount it conventionally.

3) first attempts then led to /DEV/SDA5 is not a block device.

4) I then stopped and restarted the COLDPLUG service (yes COLDPLUG) and then I could mount the filesystem on /devsda5 -- BUT I COULD ONLY ACCESS THIS AS ROOT -- a total showstopper as I have a number of these disks I MUST access from Windows machines.

5) On every re-boot I had to disable and re-enable the COLDPLUG service before I could mount the disks again.

Could anyone whos'e got 9.2 PLEASE see if you can access external USB disks as a NORMAL USER --not ROOT and also see if they can also be accessed from Windows machines via SAMBA.

Thanks everyone -- I eneded up a bit disappointed with 9.1 so I hope 9.2 fits the bill.

9.0 strangely enough hasn't given me any problems except for Wifi where I've been using the linuxant driver system on laptops.

Thanks again
Cheers
-K

I can access and write from sl9.2 to an XP sys with ntfs over the samba client.

Since there where troubles with ntfs in the past I always had a (slow) server with a vfat32 partition [ amd k6]

On both systems I had a program running that copied everything that came in on the server to the system that should get the files. Worked great.
