Suse 9.1 wont connect to the internet

I just installed SUSE 9.1 personal. I love it. However, I am unable to connect to the internet. I'm using a cable modem and a linksys router. My computer is a dell optiplex gx260, 6 months old. It recognizes the network card. I dont know why I cant connect, and im fairly new to this. Also, I have mandrake linux on another computer, also through the same router, no problems there

Are you using DHCP or a static IP with your router? Try setting up your network card with a static IP and see if that will work. I seem to recall having this trouble some time ago and that was the fix.

im using DCHP, static ip didnt work

if it helps, i noticed that the network card fails to load when the system is booting

im not sure....the one that came with the dell
