suse 9.1 professional kernel 2.6.5-7.111.30-default

hello all,

I have two questions

I have running SUSE 9.1 professional as a server for the last 3 years.
I was not very good on updates..
But now that my database and vhosted webservers has grown I have notice things like vmware and other products will not work with my current kernel or modules.

1.) VMWARE - I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix my uname descriptor wihch says 2.6.5-7.111.30-default. .I would like for it reflect the right kernel information /usr/src/linux -> linux-2.6.4-52

2.) Does anyone know if the latest kernel build 2.6.21 will work with Suse 9.1 professional. .and if so.. how difficult on the level of 1-10 to get all my older modules to work?

Thanks for your help in advance.
