SUSE 9.1 Pro -- MySQL Install Problem

Hi,

I set up SUSE Pro 9.1 as an Apache2 webserver. Apache is installed fine, however I have been trying to install MySQL with no luck. I have been using the instructions from the following guide:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...04/11/3/216650

MySQL is running, I did a netstat command to verify port 3306. When I try to log into MySQL using the following I get an error saying it couldn't connect using password NO.

I can log in as user mysql, however when I try to assign a password to this account or root, it will throw an error saying it couldn't connect.

Does anyone have a mysql install routine that they have had success with on SUSE 9.1 Pro?

Thanks for the help!

An excellent LAMP tutorial for Suse 9.1 is provided by Novell's Coolsolutions. Good luck with it -- J.W.

Hi, I am assuming that you are using the binaries. Although, my version so Suse came with mysql installed I had the same problem. I really think there is a mysql client issue. So I did 2 rpm installs and all was fixed.. Here they are

rpm -ivh --force MySQL-server-4.1.12-1.glibc23.x86_64.rpm

rpm -ivh --force MySQL-client-4.1.12-1.glibc23.x86_64.rpm

Just one more thing -- this has to be run as root. You probably already knew that.

I happen to be running on an AMD 64 bit Opteron so your rpms will be different but the principle is the same.

Hope this helps
