Unhappy Suse 12.1 i586 64 bit Frustration!

Hi All ...

Project: Install Suse 12.1 I586 64 bit. Software after install says Suse 11.4 64 bit
Drive Western Digital 80 gig, 7200 RPM. Curerently only drive other than cdrom.
Hdd set as server, cdrom set as client
Drive wiped clean using GParted.
Suse has the entire drive; set to boot from master boot record
Main Board MSI 870-G45, Mem 14 gig 1333Mhz, proc Athalon II X3 (Tricore)

Issue:

A.) After very smooth install (no errors) and restart everything is fine.
Immediately after install is finished and main screen appears, system is shut down
and restarted to insure mbr is working correctly, again NO ISSUE.

B.) > After software updates have been competed, and a second reboot is attempted
to prove mbr reliability, THE SYSTEM FAILS. This is the second attempt at trying
to install this software, with the same result. It works first time out of
the box, but after a software update it fails to load. It hangs at the first
screen; there normally is a slight pause and a second screen appears and the
system begins to boot. I wrote this using fail safe mode. It will boot manually.

I've installed enough of these basic Linux systems to have a fairly good idea
of what I am doing; this one has me totally frustrated! Everything I see says
it should work. Can anyone help me with this??

I've included three screen shots of the boot loader as well.

then you installed the wrong operating system

seeing as you have no data on this install yet

reinstall
reformat so that the /boot IS ON the MBR
the above shows that SWAP is

for the above you DO NOT install grub in the DEFAULT location
you install it to a custom location using a custom install
