Suse 10 XP pro duel boot problem.

I have 2 drives master 40 gig slave 20 gig .
The master has 1 partition in ntfs . the slave had 1 partition in fat32 .
During the install of suse 10 I told it to install on the 20 gig drive and re sized the windows partition.
I must have missed the part about how too config grub because I don't even see the XP choice at boot up. It just boots into Suse 10.

I also don't see my 40 gig drive in suse 10 when it's loaded.
Is there a way to fix it so I can boot either of system.

If I stick the XP disk in and repair the install can I use the suse disk to boot suse 10 after.
Thanks for any help
Allan

Which did you install first..Suse or XP? I would try to install XP first then Linux. I had the same problem and installing XP first worked. Windows will not recognize any Linux installs and will not work correctly. Installing Windows first should do the job.

Yes windows went on first.
When I installed Suse it wanted to format Hda where windows was I manually chose Hdb my slave drive with some windows back up files on it. Had it resize the drive After running defrag in windows. It installed there on hdb . I don't remember seting where the grub went.

It would make the analysis much easier if you could provide some data:

/boot/grub/menu.lst
/etc/grub.conf
the output of the command 'fdisk -l'
maybe also /boot/grub/device.map

You need to be root to access menu.lst and run fdisk!

Sorry all the other commands gave me Permission denied. Even after logging in as root.
Thanks Allan

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. The other "commands" are actually files and need to be viewed with an editor or simply cat. Try e.g. 'cat /boot/grub/menu.lst'.

OK I tried to open each of the files you mentioned.
For some reason each are marked (TYPE ) Unknown !
I choose (open with) and cannot seem to find a program that will open them.
I also tried to copy these files that won't work either.

They are plain text files. As I said previously, 'cat' or 'less' will work on console. You could try 'kwrite' from KDE. Don't forget to be root.

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, but I needed to stay away from the computer on the weekend.

Your bootloader doesn't have an entry to boot windows which is a little surprising as SUSE should detect Windows installations automatically, but on the other hand it should be easy to fix.

Open /boot/grub/menu.lst with a text editor of your choice and make sure you run it as root.

Insert the following section where it should appear in the menu. Be aware that the default is set to the first entry. Then reboot and you should get a menu item to select Windows:

Code:
title Windows
    chainloader (hd0,0)+1
