SuSe 10 MP3 problems

I managed to get on line a few times with a connexent shf modem .
I added some repositories (pacman) ect"" and ran yast2 searched and installed w32codec-all
The modem all of the sudden has sound on the speakers.
But I still can't play a MP3 file.
all the players on the KDE desktop just sit there . Amrok shows the file in the playlist window , but won't play it.

Any tips on what to try next. Thanks Allan

Install amarok , amarok-xine , lame , mad and then configure amarok to use xine engine via "configure amarok" in its options.

The Jemreport has a very nice article on hacking SuSE, this guide will get you running as far as Mp3 and DVD.

I have 10.0 Kde desktop. I have kde desktop sounds and some of the games have sounds.
Amarok and kafiene are installed neither will play an mp3 file. Usually one or both will crash when I try too open A mp3 .
Even the battle ship game that my Son and I love to play has no sounds. All the sounds in the game are of coarse MP3's

OK Now I just walked over to the other PC and tried the JUKe Box program. JUK
Now for some reason it will work . It's playing a MP3 as I type this.

Thats the second time that something just started to function out of the blue.
first was the smb client! messed with that for hours , Got fed up and tried later the same evening and LOW and BEhold my windows (workGroup) showed up and it let me browse it.

I tried Amarok again still a no go I have 1 Mp3 in the playlist . When I click play ) a small blue window pops up displaying (Play list Finished)

I'll search out the Jemreport and read that. Thanks Guys /Gals.

The Jemreport That's where I got the info in installing the w32codec-all RPM

That gave my dial up modem Sound on the speakers ! And so far I think that's why Juk works.
Now for the the rest Amarok is set to use Xine version 1.0 I think .
I want to ask if re installing the games and programs that don't play mp3's would or might help.
