SuSE 10 KMenu Search annoyance

Hey All,
Installed SuSE10 and it is working perfectly. One annoyance I am having though is with the KMenu. Above the Programs there is a little search box that allows you to search for programs by name.

Does anybody know how to get rid of it?

Thanks for your help
John

This is a wild guess so it may not be right. Right click on an empty space on your kicker (panel) -> Configure Panel -> Menus. I am sure there is an option there to disable the search box.

I don't see one (but I like the feature so it doesn't bother me)

Yeah, I was wrong. I will sure look for a solution, though I won't be disabling it because I like the feature.

SuSE 10 KMenu Search annoyance

Hi,

This is my first posting. I installed Suse 10.0 without any problems, but when I click on the the menu the search box prompts: "Press '/' to search". The only thing that happens is some of the menu itmes turn gray but I am unable to anything else. I have searched hi and low for any mention of this new KDE menu selection and yours is the first mention.

Thank You
Phil

OS/2, Then Suse 7.2 and up

!

You want to open the configure kde panel dialog. Choose menu and check the options that you want/dont' want.

That's the problem. The option is NOT listed and therefore CANNOT be unchecked to disable it.

I stand corrected: It appears that the feature is a custom hack for SuSE. My mistake.

I did find the option to remove it somewhere though, I just have no idea where. I went browsing through menu after menu one day, musta gone through all of em probably, I am pretty sure I saw it, marked as "menu search" or something, and it was possible to remove it. But as I like it, I ignored the setting, and cannot recall where it might have been. But I think it is there somewhere. If you really want to remove it though, shouldn't a new kernel and KDE take care of it, and probably lots more, though?

I was actually wondering about getting whichever the source package is (kmenu? kicker?) and grabbing the relevant section(s) and adding them to my Kubuntu menu and recompiling -- seems like some kubuntu users might be interested in such an addition. Thoughts? Not sure which package(s) to grab in order to do this.

It would be the kdebase package.
