SuSe 10 Gnome - Applications menu is empty
Hello,
I just installed SuSe 10 with Gnome. Lots of applications have been installed and I can see them in bin directories! But the standard SuSe and Gnome main menus are empty. What a bummer! I do not want to add items manually to the menu. I just want the standard menu back, so I can see what programs are installed on the system. Any ideas? During installation, the package desktop-data-SuSE-10.0-2.src.rpm - SuSe theme files for KDE & Gnome, had an error and was skipped. I have not ascertained whether this missing package has anything to do with the disappearance of the menu. I have also downloaded and run this rpm but nothing happened or changed. Any help here would be much appreciated. I have a very limited time frame to configure this baby for some colleagues... Thanks, Tina |
I wouldn't think the theme files would have anything to do with it...look in /usr/share/applications and /usr/local/share/applications, where there should be tons of .desktop files, which represent installed applications. KDE and GNOME use these files to build the applications menu.

Hi,
Thanks for your response. /usr/local/share contains nothing... Is this the problem? I'll try copying some of /usr/share to /usr/local/share and see what happens... /usr/share/applications contains a heap of .desktop files... |
nope.. that didn't work! :{

I think it is a problem of a bad Installation CD.
I would try to install that particular RPM manually, reboot, and then see if the problem is solved. |
