Question SuSe 10 forgets DNS settings on reboot

Whenever I reboot my Suse 10 laptop, the DNS Server setting (i.e. the IP address of my DNS server) is lost, meaning I have to change it before I do anything. I don't use DHCP, so my IP, hostname and DNS server address are all fixed. The setting is maintained when I log off / log on, it is just lost when I reboot. None of the other Suse 10 boxes I run have this problem. Also, I didn't have this problem in 9.2.

Anyone got any ideas?

The file /etc/resolv.conf is where the DNS address is stored and is used by suse to handle DNS. resolv.conf is edited by the /sbin/modify_resolvconf script. When the resolv.conf file has been temporarily modified by the modify_resolvconf script it will leave a comment in the resolv.conf file giving some information about the service that modified it (other services can modify the resolv.conf file through the modify_resolvconf script)and how you can turn off the automatic modification, so I'd look in the /etc/resolv.conf file to see what service is modifying it and then you can take further action from there. If there are no comments in your resolv.conf file, you can try adding your DNS server information manually (if it's not already there). It should be in the format of:

nameserver (DNS IP address)

If there are no comments and adding it manually doesn't work and you are still stuck, post back and we can try something else.
