Suse 10.3.. 32bit or 64bit
 

hi there,

i downloaded both 32 and 64bit of 10.3.
I'm using a amd x2 64bit cpu, but i'm not sure which version to install.
i always think that 32bit is safer to use for software support and etc..
actually it might be psychological :P i dont trust 64bit yet.
Well if any of you installed 64bit..can i have some opinions if it's safe to install..

Lots of software i use has 64bit support, but when i saw benchmarks, there is no big perfomance difference then 32bit..
which one should i install ?

Either should work ..but be very careful .. it's not as clean as you would expect.

Don't use video 3d acceleration .. I could go on ..

no 3d acceleration???? what am i suppose to do then..
i mainly work with 3d software such as Maya :(

hi, i tried 64 bit of 10.3 but no luck with the 3d effects, some weird errors and my mouse went crazy. Installing 32 bit now,

RC1 of 10.3 32 bit was working perfect.

had the same issues.
is this some kind of bug?

I think that winsnomore was refering to xgl and compiz. Not 3d acceleration.
Although I did need to install the nvidia driver from the NVidia installer rather than the rpm download from the download.nvidia.com site. I've alway had to work at getting my LCD monitor working. On my laptop, I haven't had this problem. Just to be save, download the Installer and save it.

SuSE is a bi-arch distro. Some programs like firefox and open office will run 32 bit to allow you to use the same plugins. Other packages will have a 32 & 64 bit version. You can install the version you want to.

A major improvement with 10.3 is the openSuSE update for update notification. It is an order of magnitude faster than zen was.
