SuSE 10.2 out of frequency...as usual
 

ok im starting from a fresh install. Gentoo, FC6, Ubuntu and PcLinuxos all started up fine and dandy when they were my core OS's. but SuSE 10.2 will not. i cannot get a X session to run no matter what i do, ive reconfigured my Xorg.conf file more than a few times now and im still stick...looking at a black monitor that will not get into frequency. in the past other distros seemed to have set my monitor as VESA. as a matter of fact i looked at the xorg.conf for a gentoo live cd and thats what my monitor is labeled as Vesa. but Suse sets my monitor to be a bcm13<i know thats a wifi card but thats kinda how its labled< or something with outrageous resolution like 1152X862, the monitor i am using is a older CRT monitor so those resolutions are not practical. im wondering what a good Xorg.conf looks like with a pretty generic CRT monitor. ive set it to use 1024x768 and still no avail. im running a geforce 7 series of graphic card with a kernel version of 2.6.17, im running 1686 version of suse on a amdx2 3200 processor... im pretty clueless as to what to do, ive done alot of searching on the forums and i keep seeing "sax2" obviously if x isnt working sax2 is not going to work either since its still going to be out of sync... so sax2 is out of the question... i pretty sure i just need to see another xorg.config file to get this problem situated.. any help will be greatly appreciated

Why not just copy the xorg.conf file from gentoo or a Live CD that works and then paste the sections you need into Suse's?

Can you run sax2 at all. If so, select a generic vesa monitor with similar capabilities. The vertical and horizontal refresh values are probably off.

kusanagi5eed are you using nvidia card with TV out ?
if so try changing the boot to pure text mode (remove splash from grub configuration)
in my case (using suse 10.2) graphical boot caused the generic nv driver to display x windows on tv leaving monitor off even with no device attached to graphics card tv out, and turning entire boot sequence to text mode somehow fixed the situation

ps. forcing X server to enable correct output via x.config options gave no results to me

ok Sax2 was running and all, but because a X server could never sync with my monitor... i couldnt see it. what i ended up having to do was re-installing Suse and pressing F3 during the installation CD's boot loader and set the resolution to VESA... i feel like such an idiot, but no matter what i tried this was the only thing that worked. as for me using the Gentoo xorg.conf i tried that a few times but i cept getting serious Nvidia problems, or other parse problems...it just didnt want to take.

Anyways thank you guys very much for your support im glad to say that this response was written on my SuSE10.2 box!! horray!!!!:p
