Hi, In past Suse distributions I have used the public_html folders in each user accounts for different web sites. I installed Suse 10.2 as a new installation and although it shows userdir or mod_userdir enabled the public_html folders are just not working when using the ~userid url is used. I have tried 644 all the way to 777 for permissions for that folder. I feel that the userdir is not really being invoked or perhaps the path is wrong somewhere. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Hi jwesthue I had the same problem.

Add the line
Include /etc/apache2/mod_userdir.conf
somewhere near all the other Includes in /etc/apache2/httpd.conf

Then in /etc/apache2/mod_userdir.conf find

# the UserDir directive is actually used inside the virtual hosts, to
# have more control
#UserDir public_html

uncomment that last line so it's UserDir public_html [no #]

Then restart apache.

That worked for me... I only use my system for testing my scripts, so I'm not sure if that's the ideal way, but it's good enough for me.
