Hello all
After installing the lastest Nvidia drivers I can't use any thing that uses Open Gl. Sax says that 3d is enabled. If I go to the console and type glxgears it out puts this:
jesse@linux-pweg:~> glxgears
Segmentation fault
I have checked /var/log/messages , nothing there. Dose any one have any ideas?
Verifying driver installation:
nvidia ... strings: '/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/updates/drivers/nvidia_drv.so': No such file
done.
I tried reinstalling the driver and I still got this part from 3Ddiag. In /var/log/nvidia-installer-log it dose not look like there are any errors. Do you think that I could just download the file and put it in that path?
At this point there si no harm in trying so. You can just remove it after if it causes a problem.
This makes me think your distro and the driver install might not have the same directory tree. Not every distro out there follows the UNIX standard file directory order.
Make a search for "nvidia_drv.so" on your system just to see if it's not somewhere else.
...and if you do copy it manually, don't forget to give it permission (chmod 555 or +rx)
after putting the file "nvidia_drv.so" in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/updates/drivers/ 3Diag says that it can find the dirver. but when trying to run glxgears I still get a segmentation fault. trying to run a game with 3d does not work either. do you know of any other log/places that I could look for some info to what is causing this?
thanks
so I figured it out. I uninstalled NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9629-pkg1.run and I installed NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-8774-pkg1 and copied /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/nvidia.so to /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/updates/drivers/nvidia.so
