Suse 10.1 initial install Grub error 22 on first restart

This is my first experience with Linux. I have a spare 8GB drive that I am trying to load Suse 10.1 from CDs. The drive is the only drive on the machine and set up as a master. On the first re-boot I get a message Grub Loading 1.5, then Grub loading... error 22.
I am NOT trying to dual boot with Windows, I want it to be a stand alone machine running Suse Linux.
Any help you can provide would be appreciated, especially if that help corrects the problem!

error 22 : No such partition
This error is returned if a partition is requested in the device
part of a device- or full file name which isn't on the selected
disk.

Sounds like the /boot/grub/menu.lst may be incorrectly configured. Either that or the partition wasn't properly made and formatted during installation.

I'd have to see the SuSE entry from menu.lst, and /etc/fstab to determine if it's a problem with menu.lst config.
