SuSE 10.1 CD missing from Yast Installation Sources
 

I'm pretty new to linux but enjoy using it whenever possible for personal projects (just to give an idea of my abilities). After installing openSuSE 10.1 and becoming comfortable with my surroundings I have hit a road block:

Ran into problems with the new zmd package updater and in attempting to repair it, somehow managed to remove the default openSuSE disc source. Having done so, now I am unable to revert back to the discs for ANY packages which is not going to work.

I've tried to simple goto the Installation Sources -> Add -> CD, but that freezes after pressing "Finish".

Any help would be much appreciated at this point...

Well anyone that read that post found out just how "new" to linux I was; the whole time I was trying to add a source when all that was necessary was to pop in the disc and update the packages that were missing.

On a side note, for anyone that is having the same issue trying to add CD/DVD installation sources to openSuSE 10.1... the trick appears to be NOT pressing "Finish" but instead pressing "Abort". It prompts that it will not store my changes, however, on the next load and/or update the source is mysteriously there...

If you press finish, be prepared to wait, that or CTRL + ALT + ESC and Terminate the "Installation Source" window.

But yes, YaST has some bugs, also consider trying command line / smart / y2pmsh (also command line)

Alternative to ZMD and Yast in Suse 10.1:

I'd suggest doing what everyone else has suggested, even Novell suggests this...

Install SMART package manager and its tray and gui components. It works way faster than Yast or Zen and its just a 1 button update to updated packages.

I just installed Smart and I'm very happy with it. I'm just trying to remove the ZEN updater until Novell decides to do another release of Zen, which I see they're working on it (I saw it in their software.opensuse.org folder).
