i installed suse 10.1,,,, and have been using it for a bit... my feelings are,,, god, why doesn,t this distro work properly on my computer.... i click on settings on a web page i am surfing, and suse doesn,t even keep the settings..anyone eles have the same problem../??
I am using SuSE 10.2 and its default Firefox Web Browser and if I select Edit/Preferences I have no problem saving my setup for Firefox. Perhaps you could explain which web browser you are using. Just what "settings" are not being saved and just in what browser you are placing those settings in to.
I have had great success getting SuSE 10.2 to work in my multi-computer setup. I have a triple boot SuSE 10.2/SLED 10 SP1/Windows XP setup with SuSE 10.2 booting from an external USB hard drive. I use Samba to share files between Windows and Linux machines. I am using the latest nVidia video driver and a Sound Blaster Audigy sound card. I have a d-link 1 gbit network card working at high speed and an old TV/FM video working as well. All basic functions such as Web Browsing, Email, Multimedia (DVD-MP3) and the ability to copy ANY DVD are among the things SuSE 10.2 can do for you. I have found that it is best to use hardware that wants to work with Linux and if a built-in function such as sound or network gives me a problem, I just use an add-in option card that works with Linux.
We would love to help if you can provide more information..
thanks for the help,,firefox workes great on the web site.... quess konqueror is the problem... how do i get the web page to open , filling my monitor..on konqueror,, i have to hit the max button all the time... i am also running multiple operating systems,,, microshaft 2000, and suse 10.1 ronss
Well I surely suggest you stick with Firefox over Konqueror, however here is what I did and it did save the full screen setting after closing the application and then restarting again as a Web Browser with a URL. The first time the application was started, Konqueror did not open in full screen mode, but it did after saving the settings.
After I got a Web site up in full screen in Konqueror I did the following:
Settings/Save View Profile "Web Browsing"...
Highlight "Web Browsing" in the list.
Press the Save Button at the bottom right of the open option Window.
If this does not work for you let me know. The command to start Konqueror as a Web Browser is "kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing."
I do use Konqueror as my file browser and the same basic method can be used to save your file viewing setup.
